Přední demokratický senátor kritizuje dohodu Union Pacific o koupi Norfolk Southern

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Přední demokratický senátor Chuck Schumer ve čtvrtek kritizoval plán společnosti Union Pacific (NYSE:UNP) na akvizici společnosti Norfolk Southern (NYSE:NSC) v hodnotě 85 miliard dolarů, která by vedla k vytvoření prvního amerického železničního přepravce nákladu pokrývajícího celé území Spojených států, což je podle něj krok směrem k monopolu.

Schumer uvedl, že tato dohoda „nás posune ještě dále na cestě k nebezpečné konsolidaci a monopolní moci… Jedná se o nepřátelské převzetí americké infrastruktury.“

„Desítky let fúzí železničních společností vedly ke zhoršení služeb, bezpečnosti, pracovních podmínek a zvýšení nákladů pro přepravce, což v konečném důsledku znamená vyšší ceny pro spotřebitele,“ dodal.

Na dotaz ohledně Schumerových vyjádření společnost Union Pacific uvedla, že ona i Norfolk Southern „jsou odhodlány zachovat pracovní místa odborů, rozšiřovat naši pracovní sílu a obsluhovat oblasti v Americe, které v současné době nejsou pokryty, protože stále více zboží se přepravuje po železnici.“
