US President Donald Trump has stated his categorical refusal to allow the country to purchase oil from Venezuela. He expressed his opinion during a conversation with reporters at the White House on Friday. The American leader noted that he was surprised to learn about Joe Biden's decision to approve the purchase of large volumes of Venezuelan oil. According to him, we are talking about millions of barrels, the purchase of which he called absurd. Trump stressed that he would not allow such practices to continue. At the same time, the president added that the United States expresses dissatisfaction with Venezuela's position and intends to closely monitor further developments. The United States Special Representative for Latin America, Mauricio Claver-Carone, said earlier on January 31 that the country does not need to import oil from Venezuela, as it seeks to achieve the status of a net exporter of energy resources. This statement was made in the context of discussions led by Trump's envoy-at-large Richard Grenell. During the talks held in Caracas, Grenell raised questions about the return of Venezuelans who illegally found themselves in the United States and the release of a number of American citizens.
