EU tightens control over gas supplies from Russia

The EU intends to oblige companies to disclose details of agreements with Russia on gas supplies to the EU. This will be part of the European Commission's plans to stop importing Russian gas by the end of 2027. 

This approach is reflected in an internal document of the commission, which also concerns the introduction of a ban on new contracts from the end of this year. It is assumed that the relevant proposals will be announced on June 17.

The Commission plans to introduce legislative measures that will ensure the complete cessation of gas supplies from Russia on time. According to these plans, from January 1, 2026, European LNG terminals will cease to provide services to Russian customers. However, for contracts with short-term obligations, this period will be extended until mid-June 2026.

As for long-term contracts, the deadline for their fulfillment is set for the end of 2027. These steps are aimed at strengthening the EU's energy independence and reflect the union's desire to diversify its energy supply sources.
