В 2018 году Центробанк России планирует начать переговоры с партнерами по Евразийскому экономическому союзу (ЕАЭС) и БРИКС о возможности создания единой цифровой валюты.


Заместитель председателя российского регулятора Ольга Скоробогатова считает нецелесообразным введение национальной цифровой валюты с точки зрения макроэкономики. А создание единой валюты на территории стран, входящих в БРИКС и ЕАЭС, зампред видит вполне закономерным.


Ранее Центробанк уже задумывался о создании национальной виртуальной валюты – крипторубля, однако многие политики выступили против этого нововведения, сделав выбор в пользу выпуска «наднациональной» валюты.
