Letecká doprava na letišti Newark bude příští týden pravděpodobně posílena, uvádí FAA

Federální úřad pro letectví (FAA) oznámil, že plánuje příští týden posílit počet letů na mezinárodním letišti Newark Liberty poté, co byla v pondělí téměř o dva týdny dříve než plánováno znovu otevřena přistávací dráha.

Úřadující správce FAA Chris Rocheleau na tiskové konferenci na letišti uvedl, že dráha je již využívána pro odlety, ale že certifikace pro přílety bude trvat do 9. června, než bude možné zvýšit počet příletů z nynějších 28 na 34 za hodinu. Ministr dopravy Sean Duffy uvedl, že letiště by mělo 10. června dosáhnout 34 příletů za hodinu.

Minulý měsíc FAA nařídila omezení letů na maximálně 28 příletů a 28 odletů za hodinu, dokud nebude dokončena výstavba dráhy. Poté se maximální počet příletů a odletů zvýší na 34 za hodinu až do 25. října.

Newark v New Jersey je významným uzlem společnosti United Airlines, která provozuje téměř 70 % letů na tomto letišti a výrazně omezila počet letů.

„Pokud si dnes kupujete letenku, můžete být klidní,“ řekl generální ředitel United Scott Kirby (NYSE:KEX) na tiskové konferenci spolu s FAA a americkým ministerstvem dopravy. Uvedl, že rezervace v Newarku poklesly, což znamená, že ceny a dostupnost letenek jsou i přes omezení letů lepší než v minulosti.

Newark Liberty, jedno z hlavních letišť obsluhujících New York City, je vzdálené asi 9 mil (14,5 km) od Manhattanu.
