СМИ сообщили, что в Австралии закрылось последнее автомобилестроительное производство, принадлежащее компании Holden (отделение General Motors). На заводе трудилось около 900 рабочих.

Красный седан модели Commodore V8 стал последним автомобилем, выпущенным в Австралии. Ранее в стране также работали такие гиганты автомобилестроения, как Toyota и Ford, однако они вынуждены были закрыть заводы на материке из-за высокой себестоимости производства. 

Кроме того, высокий обменный курс австралийского доллара и большая конкуренция со стороны иностранных компаний делают невыгодным дальнейшее производство автомобилей в Австралии.
