V úterý byla v Dánsku uvedena do provozu první komerční továrna na výrobu e-metanolu na světě. Část produkce odkoupí přepravní gigant Maersk, který jej bude používat jako nízkoemisní palivo pro svou flotilu kontejnerových lodí.
Lodní doprava je pod tlakem, aby našla nové zdroje paliva poté, co většina zemí podpořila opatření na splnění cílů Mezinárodní námořní organizace (IMO) v oblasti eliminace uhlíkových emisí do roku 2050.
Dosud byly paliva s nulovými emisemi, jako je zelený amoniak a e-methanol, které se vyrábějí z obnovitelných zdrojů energie, dražší než konvenční paliva, hlavně proto, že se nevyrábějí ve velkém měřítku.
„Očekáváme, že kolem roku 2035 dosáhneme cenové parity s fosilním metanolem,“ řekl agentuře Reuters Knud Erik Andersen, generální ředitel dánské společnosti European Energy.
Nová továrna v Kasso v jižním Dánsku, jejíž výstavba stála odhadem 150 milionů eur (167 milionů dolarů), bude podle společných majitelů, dánské společnosti European Energy a japonské společnosti Mitsui, vyrábět 42 000 tun, neboli 53 milionů litrů e-metanolu ročně.
Hlavním odběratelem závodu v Kasso bude společnost Maersk. Ta provozuje 13 kontejnerových lodí s duálním pohonem na metanol a topný olej a objednala dalších 13 lodí.
Podle společnosti je roční produkce závodu dostatečná k pohonu jedné velké kontejnerové lodi o kapacitě 16 000 kontejnerů plující mezi Asií a Evropou.
Menší loď Laura Maersk, první kontejnerová loď na světě s duálním pohonem, s kapacitou více než 2 100 dvacetistopých ekvivalentních jednotek, spotřebuje pouze 3 600 tun paliva ročně.
