The EU may consider increasing imports from the United States by about $56.5 billion. Such a step can reduce the trade deficit and at the same time reduce the likelihood of the introduction of US duties. This idea was voiced by Maros Sefcovic, who holds the post of European Commissioner for Trade. Sefcovic noted that the U.S. trade deficit with respect to the 27 EU countries is about $56.5 billion annually. He expressed the opinion that the elimination of this disparity is possible by increasing purchases of American goods by European countries, which could be a step towards resolving trade differences. The European Commissioner also said that discussions on duties had already progressed, but stressed that the European Union would not accept tariffs at the level of 10%. According to him, reaching a mutually acceptable agreement between the EU and the United States remains an extremely difficult task, given the interests and positions of the member states of the union.
