The European Union is considering reducing duties on fertilizer imports from the United States as part of ongoing trade negotiations with the Trump administration. This was announced by the EU Commissioner for Agriculture, Christoph Hansen. Hansen noted that reducing duties on American fertilizers is «definitely being considered as an option.» He added that such a proposal could be a significant step forward and would be attractive to the United States. However, the details of a possible reduction, including whether the duties will be zero or simply reduced from current rates, have yet to be discussed. Despite being open to discussing the issue of reducing duties, Hansen stressed that the EU does not intend to compromise on its food safety standards in order to achieve a trade deal. The bloc's position on these standards will remain unchanged, regardless of the outcome of negotiations with the United States.
