US President Donald Trump expressed hope that the trade and economic agreements reached with China in Switzerland would provide American businesses with access to the Chinese market. According to him, the main advantage of the deal is that Beijing will open up to companies from the United States, and this will create new economic opportunities. The American leader also stated his readiness to discuss the details of the deal personally with Chinese President Xi Jinping, if necessary, although he considers it unlikely. Earlier, Trump called the agreements reached a significant breakthrough, but clarified that the final terms were still being negotiated. Tensions in trade relations between the two countries have persisted for a long time. The United States raised tariffs on Chinese imports to 145%, to which Beijing responded by increasing duties on American goods to 125%. The negotiations in Switzerland on May 10-11 ended with a statement by the parties on the mutual reduction of duties from May 14, 2025.
