The EU is preparing a $100 billion tariff strike in response to the US actions

The EU intends to impose additional tariffs on American goods with a total value of about 100 billion euros if the current trade negotiations do not lead to acceptable results for the bloc. Member States are expected to receive information on the measures on Wednesday, after which a one-month consultation period will begin, during which the list of goods can be reviewed. 

The European Commission plans to hand over to the United States a document with proposals including reducing tariff and non-tariff barriers, as well as measures to stimulate American investment. However, negotiations that began actively last month have not progressed so far, and most of the US duties are likely to remain in force. 

The EU also said that investigations initiated by the Trump administration could increase the volume of European goods subject to tariffs to 549 billion euros.

The new document will be an addition to the current EU duties on $21 billion of American imports, imposed in response to the 25% US tariffs on steel and aluminum. Earlier, the EU agreed to postpone the implementation of these measures for 90 days after the US reduced duties on a significant part of European exports from 20% to 10% for the duration of negotiations.
