Congo plans to increase oil production by almost half by 2030

The Republic of Congo plans to increase oil production to 500,000 barrels per day by 2030 against the current ~268,000, said Minister of Hydrocarbons Bruno Jean Richard Itois.

From January to July 2025, the country produced 56.9 million barrels (268 thousand b/d), which is 5.2% more than a year earlier. The growth was provided by new projects of TotalEnergies, which discovered four fields, and Perenco, which intends to increase production to 200 thousand bpd by 2030.

At the same time, the CORAF refinery in Pointe Noire covers only 65% of domestic demand, while the remaining 35% is offset by imports.

According to OPEC, in July, Congo produced 263 thousand b/d with a quota of 277 thousand. At the beginning of 2024, oil reserves were estimated at 1.8 billion barrels, and gas reserves at 10 trillion cubic feet (EIA).

Russia is also actively involved in the country's energy sector. LUKOIL and Eni are working together at the Marine XII offshore site, where LNG supplies from Congo's first floating installation, Tango, began in 2024. By the end of 2025, it is planned to increase LNG production to 3 million tons per year as part of the Congo LNG project. In addition, LUKOIL's participation in the Marine VI project and cooperation on the construction of the Pointe-Noir–Lutete–Maluco-Tresho oil product pipeline are being discussed.
