Economically, Denmark is already functioning as part of the eurozone, but for further integration with the European Union, Copenhagen should consider introducing a single currency. This was stated by the head of the Central Bank of Denmark, Christian Kettel Thomsen. «Do you want Denmark to be even more closely connected with the EU? We are already a part of it, but it is important to remember that the ECB and the euro play a key role in integration,» he said. According to Thomsen, the transition to the euro would allow the country to participate more actively in the decision-making process in the EU and strengthen cooperation with its unification partners. When asked whether Copenhagen should give up the krona in order to become closer to the European Union, Thomsen stressed: «It's a decision for politicians. But if the goal is to be more involved in the future of the EU and influence its decisions, then my answer is yes.»
